Welcome to A Place for Bethany!
We are a 501(c3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing homes, day programs, and vocational support for special need adults to live and grow.
AP4B will provide educational, vocational, and socialization programs as well as live-in houses and day programming. Our vision is to provide some of the most vulnerable and looked over in our society a rich life with community.
Co-founder Lois Chaney-Smith is the parent of special needs adult, Bethany Grace. When speaking to the transition team at her school, it was made clear that there were very few and limited options for individuals like her, those who have extraordinary needs, being medically fragile in addition to developmental delays, to continue to grow and form community beyond her formal schooling years.

Those who cannot work and need supervision to ensure their safety often fall to the wayside in adult life, living in their parents’ homes without peers or opportunities to continue to learn and develop. Co-founder Michèle Battle in conversation with friends, coworkers, and neighbors that are parents of special needs adults, including Lois, sympathized and decided that if there were no options, then they would create their own.
Thus, A Place for Bethany was created with the vision and intention of providing everyone with adequate shelter, fulfillment, and care. Our focus is on the transitional age group of 18 to 30 years old special needs adults, aiming to have the ability to welcome in every need level. At its core, AP4B was born out of love and a desire to provide everyone with a space they can call uniquely their own.
